Crops are not sheep

Posted on by

The climate change argument is so lame as to make sheep look very smart indeed.

“Just grow crops on that land instead of raising cattle.”

Right. Yes. Absolutely. Have you been outside? Not outside in a city. Outside outside. Countryside outside. Have you looked at what 65% of Britain’s agricultural land actually looks like?

It looks like the side of a mountain in Snowdonia with soil the depth of a paperback novel and an annual rainfall that would make a rainforest feel overdressed. It looks like the Scottish Borders at 400 metres elevation, where the wind comes in horizontal for nine months of the year and the frost doesn’t fully leave until June.

It looks like the Devon coastline on 40-degree slopes where no tractor has ever successfully operated without becoming a story people tell in the village pub for generations.

It looks like the Brecon Beacons, where the peat bog comes to meet the acidic grassland and the nearest thing to an arable field is someone’s daydream. These are not fields that have been selfishly hoarded by farmers for cows while perfectly good crop-growing sits unused. These are fields where the cattle ARE the only possible food production. Where the grass grows because it evolved to grow there, and the cow eats it because it evolved to eat grass.

Plant quinoa in mid-Wales and it will stand briefly in the wind, look confused, and die. Plant wheat on a Cumbrian fell and the sheep will watch it fail with the quiet satisfaction of animals that know how this works.

The people saying “just grow crops instead” have confused a topographic map with a menu. The land does not offer what the spreadsheet requires.

The cow is not blocking a better option. The cow IS the option.

It is, in fact, the ONLY option.

Go outside. Have a look. Bring a coat.”

Elon’s just another guy. He slipped into a fast moving stream and rode the wave at the right time. That was his smartest move to date. Except for the US Defense contracts, his companies all lose money. But that’s nothing new in the Tech industry.

Sci-fi readers already know where this is going: Musk is thinking about building a mass driver, which is essentially a coilgun for launching payloads instead of deadly projectiles. Paired with the lunar facility, Musk views it as a necessary step in building out computing power for his AI empire, which must not be bound by the finitude of terrestrial real estate.

“You have to go to the Moon,” Musk said at an all-hands meeting, per the NYT.  “It’s difficult to imagine what an intelligence of that scale would think about, but it’s going to be incredibly exciting to see it happen,”

Euthanasia debate: Is there dignity in death, or does palliative care kill? | Stuff

Gwynne-Robson has heard plenty of momentary requests to die.”It’s not uncommon for a patient to say, ‘If I had a gun I would shoot myself,’ or ‘Doctor, can you give me pill,’ and the correct response to that, I think, is to ask what the problem is and explore that. The vast percentage of the time you start to address the issue of concern and that request disappears.”His stance is not unusual, with other palliative care heads having already spoken out in an attempt to paint a picture of how palliative care can already provide a painless death.

The Delusional Feminist Power Fantasy Relies On Male Charity And Tolerance

Two genders: Male or Female
Two bathrooms: Male or Female
Toxic? Two Genders
Kids: Leave them alone!

If one studies the archetypal ideals of the hero’s journey (a hallmark of the male power fantasy), what we almost always find are stories of self sacrifice. Power for most men is meant to be used in service to others; to protect and to provide for those who cannot protect themselves. This symbolism is found everywhere in literature, television and movies centered on powerful and popular male figures. Rather than being “toxic,” men are compelled by their inherent relationship to power to achieve something greater for all the people around them.

This is not to say that there are no men with twisted motives. History is splattered with male rulers who have abused their authority and committed a host of atrocities. These men, however, are the exception to the rule. The majority of men desire a chance at heroism and adherence to a moral code. We used to call it “chivalry”, the opposite of villainy.

Advice For Men From TV’s ‘Hercules’: Bring Back Masculinity | ZeroHedge

This short piece gives hope that all men are not lost and that all women seek un-lost men. I think the pendulum is swinging back and the J curve is on the far side of all the cultural BS we have subjected to over the last few years.

And as far as the transgender “trend” to eliminate masculinity, Kevin Sorbo has no patience for parents who allow or encourage young children to identify as a different sex. Just because a little boy might try on his mother’s shoes doesn’t mean he wants to be a girl or should transition into one with hormones or drastic surgery.“What they’re doing to kids is wrong. Let kids be kids … these children can’t make up their minds at that age,” he said. And Sam said it’s crucial that parents monitor what their children see and hear. “Be careful of who you allow access to your child.”Like many conservatives who are baffled by this war on masculinity, Kevin summed things up with a simple wish: “Make being normal, normal again.”
